Irish volunteers helped make renovation in Svir Asylum
On May 31st 2010 a group of men from Roche Pharmaceutical Plant in Ireland came to Belarus to work on Svir Adult Internat. They were invited by Dobra Tut Charity Fund. The group of eight men did huge work in helping to repair the old building in Svir. This group was then followed on June 4th by another Irish group lead by John Quinn from Wexford. They also stayed a week to continue the hard work.
Walls were built to make new rooms; new floors were put down and then tiled. New shower units were built with a new water heating system. Then the walls were plastered and prepared for painting. Now all that remains to be done is for the new doors to the rooms and a new window to be installed. All the residents in Svir were delighted with the visitors and were very helpful in carrying out all the work. When the men left to go back to Ireland there were tears all round – but the Irish groups promised to be back next year to meet up with their new friends.
