Gorodische children's Orphanage for children with special needs, Baranovichi region. About 300 residents. BURREN CHERNOBYL PROJECT has started to work since 2004. Now DOBRA TUT fund has undertaken the responsibility to help go on with the work.

For the year 2000 the good people of the Parish of Shannon asked Burren Chernobyl Project through Fr Brendan and Fr Tom to find an orphanage in need which they would take on as their Millennium Project. And so we found our way to Baranovichi and out the road to the orphanage of Gorodishche, where there were over three hundred children, some in quite appalling conditions.

Thanks to the ongoing fund-raising of the Shannon Parish we have been able to make a real difference. Amongst other things, we have done the following:

• washed and massaged the children in the old days when things were not good
• done repairs to the building
• replaced old building doors, windows
• provided kitchen equipment
• bought new laundry washing machine, drying machine, centrifuge
• provided curtains, beds, bed linen, pillows,
• set up playground equipment and verandas
• provided wheelchairs, walking aids, supports, crutches
• given them a chainsaw
• help to finance furniture and fitting for the new orphanage there
• set up a new summer veranda for children
• bought cows, horse, boar
• provided seeds, apple trees for orchard, fish for lake as food
• sent 6 lorry loads of Humanitarian Aid
• improved the cemetery with head stones for the children’s graves
• set up a Volunteer programme every year, which is now year round
• set up a Physiotherapy programme
• provided summer visits to Ireland for children
• arranged day trips for the children to town and to the restaurant
• provided extra food, yogurts and fruit for all the children
• paid for holidays in summer camp in Belarus for children

• nappies – total amount 1 970 EUR
• special hygienic means to care about the children, that spend most of the time in bed – total amount 250 EUR

Thus we need 2 220 EUR monthly.
