We never forget

It is 33 years since the most severe nuclear disaster ever registered in the history. Chernobyl became a turning point in the lives of so many people, especially the people of Belarus. It was the point of no return: for the families, who lived in the surrounding area, there was no return home; for many disabled children – no return to their families. For us all – no return to healthy living.

But there are those, who still try to make difference! People from Ireland have been there for the children and people of Belarus, and they still are. Volunteers keep coming over to the orphanages to support, care and love those who need it most of all.

This April 4 volunteers of our partner organization Chernobyl Children’s Trust spent 9 days in Cherven orphanage looking after the children. They dedicated their time to the most difficult groups, where children and young adults spend most of their days in beds. Vigi, Angela, Sally-Ann and Alma took as many as they could to the sensory room, helped feeding and changing, took the children for walks to help them gain more strength. They didn’t forget about the older boys and girls and organized cooking classes as well as the super disco with treats.

Even thought it was the first visit of these volunteers to Belarus, it was full of different event and of course all sorts of emotions. They came to help and returned home with an unforgettable life changing experience. For all their help they were greatly rewarded!

We thank them from the bottom of our hearts and looking forward to seeing them again soon!!!!

At the same time our good old friend Sean Hegarty came over for a few days to sort out some wheelchairs for the children. More news about his visit is on the way, and for now we would like to thank everyone, who still remembers about Chernobyl, who still cares and helps the people of Belarus! You will always be in our hearts!!!
